Familiar actions—dancing, sitting, skipping, holding—are removed from their expected environments and held instead within dark, indeterminate spaces. These paintings resist resolution or sentimentality. Movement is arrested, gestures are isolated, and figures appear bound to invisible structures that govern balance, proximity, and control. What emerges is not a sequence of scenes, but a series of held moments in which vulnerability, ritual, and collective presence quietly converge.VIEW PAINTINGS arrow_drop_down_circle@KeeneOnArt keene.gallerysocial YouTubeXFacebook U.S.A. & U.K.Click to ExplorePAINTINGS, PHOTOGRAPHY & TIME BASED WORK TOBIAS KEENE | ANNELIZE BESTER | THE CHILDREN OF BOTSWANAarrow_drop_down_circleWelcomeThe Black PaintingsMore Summer 2026Contactkeene.gallery
